See each individual collection's
Product & Stone Information page for our personal opinion of that individual collection.
Absolutely not! When given a choice of 10k, 14k or 18k "white" or
"yellow" karat gold, the item will be cast that metal color/quality gold all the
way through the piece. Note that some manufacturer's do rhodium-plate
their 14k white gold and sterling silver items for the whitest finish possible.
Each mother's jewelry item is custom
made just for you. When you order a ring from us, we do not take a ring
that someone else returned and resize it/reset stones. Each ring is new
from the manufacturer. Our chances of ever selling a returned piece with
the same gold quality, color of gold, ring size, type of stones, kind of stones,
and placement of stones is nearly impossible. So in order for us to offer
lower prices, we do not accept returns. See below for information about if
we make a mistake. NOTE:
Product samples are available for many of our products... see
a sample before you purchase if you are unsure.
In most cases the answer is no.
If your order has not yet been placed with the manufacturer, we will be happy to
cancel the order for you. If, however, the item has gone into production,
we cannot cancel the order. Many items are put into production very
shortly after you place your order so order very carefully.
Items are guaranteed to be free
of manufacturer defects and as ordered.
Product Guarantee- All items are guaranteed to be delivered free of
manufacturer's defects. If any item has a manufacturer's defect as
determined by the manufacturer, it will be corrected by them at no charge
to you. We will even pay for your return insured REGULAR US MAIL shipping
fee if it is
determined to be a manufacturer's defect. NOTE however that loss of
stones, broken prongs or any other damage caused by accident or abuse is
not covered.
Click here for product care and stone loss and prong breakage note.
Many
mfr. warranties are void if someone
other that the manufacturer works on the item.
Manufacturer Defects or OUR
Mistakes:
If there is a manufacturer's defect or if we make a mistake and send
the wrong size, stones, color of gold, spelling or stone placement we will, of course,
have the manufacturer take care of the problem. We have been in business for over
30 years and
stand behind our products. We inspect each item prior to shipment and we do
our best to catch any mfr. errors or defects before we ship. Some
items are shipped to you directly from the manufacturer.
If there is a mistake on our part, you must telephone us within 15
days of delivery. If it is our mistake, we
will resize the ring not in the size ordered; reset stones when stones are not
as ordered; have items remade if a misspelling is our
mistake; and make any other corrections of our mistakes for free and will also reimburse you for
the insured REGULAR US MAIL shipping fee.
If a different service or faster form of US Mail is used, you will be
responsible for any amount over regular insured US Mail. Note that we do not
reimburse fees for work done by someone else. Corrections because of
our error (stone placement, names, etc.) will not be free of charge after the
above stated time period so inspect the item immediately upon delivery.
Customer Mistakes: Any ring
returned for sizing that is the correct size ordered, for rearrangement or
change in stones or for any other alteration or correction that was shipped as
ordered it, will be charged accordingly and standard shipping fees will
apply. We strongly encourage you to verify your order after you have placed
the item in the shopping cart to make sure you have not made any mistakes.
This generally depends upon two
factors... the production time (the time it takes to make the item and ship from our store) indicated on the product page and the shipping
method selected.
Production
Time: Each product page states the length of time required to make/ship that
particular custom piece. This time varies from approximately 3 days up to
6-10 weeks so it is important that you read the product page before ordering.
This time frame will also be indicated on your emailed order confirmation.
Delivery Time- Time in the Shipping Company's Hands: Most custom made mothers jewelry items ship free via insured US
Priority Mail- signature required... look for our free shipping symbol.
Some items do not ship free.
Delivery Methods of Items Shipping From
Our Traverse City, Michigan Store...
Note that some items ship directly from the manufacturer via FedEx or UPS.
Read individual product pages.
US Priority
Mail- signature generally takes 3-5 days for delivery but is not guaranteed
to arrive in that time frame.
US Express
Mail- signature required is a 1-2 day guaranteed delivery service... if delivery
is not attempted in this time frame, your shipping fee is refunded.
IMPORTANT: Upgrading your shipping method to Express Mail will only speed up the
actual delivery service time. If an item says it takes from 7-14 days to ship from our store,
it will still take 7-14 days to ship if the Express delivery upgrade is
selected however it will take 1-2 days for delivery instead of about 3-5 days.
If you treat your new jewelry with
extra care, it will give you years of enjoyment. It is not meant to be worn when
doing any work where you might hit it and cause damage. It is
important that during everyday wear if you should hit your hand/ring/jewelry on
something, that the prongs and stones be carefully inspected immediately for any damage.
You do not have to be doing heavy work to damage a piece of jewelry... simply
hitting a ring accidentally on the edge of a table/counter/file cabinet/etc. or
hooking a prong on something can
break off prongs or chip or shatter stones. It is common to cause damage and not even
remember when you did it because we constantly use our hands. As with all jewelry, but especially rings, over time the prongs will wear down
and will require retipping (when a piece requires retipping will
depend upon how often it is worn) so it is important to have your new jewelry inspected
periodically by a professional jeweler. We recommend inspection at least every
3-12 months depending upon how often the item is worn. Generally, opals require a bit more care
because they are a softer stone... to prevent cracking, do not subject opals to
rough handling or sudden temperature changes. Use a jewelry cleaner
periodically that is made specifically for the type of metal and the kind of
stones set in the piece or have the item cleaned by a professional jeweler.
Remove your jewelry before using any harsh cleaners or products.

Stone Loss & Prong Breakage Note:
Prongs generally do not just fall off and stones usually don't just chip, break
or fall out. In
other words, it usually takes some action on the part of the person wearing the
jewelry to cause this damage. Items are carefully inspected prior to
shipment. The usual reason for loss or damage is hitting
or snagging a prong on something which causes the prong to break off or be pulled
away from the stone or the stone itself is hit and broken or shattered. (Also see
below for karat gold's reaction to chlorine/bleach.) This damage is not a
manufacturer's defect and standard repair and shipping charges apply. One manufacturer's defect
that can cause prongs to simply fall off shortly after purchase is porosity caused during the
manufacturing process... the setting is returned to the mfr. for testing to
determine this is the cause. When porosity during the manufacturing process is
the cause, the ring is scrapped and a new ring made at no charge. This has
happened to our products only twice over the past 12 years.
Chlorine and products that contain
chlorine are one of your gold jewelry’s worst enemies. Over time it will weaken
the gold structure resulting in broken prongs, links, etc. When enjoying
swimming pools or Jacuzzis or simply using cleaning products that contain
chlorine or bleach, remember to remove your jewelry and store it in a safe
place.
Sterling silver is just over
92% pure silver mixed with a copper alloy. As a jewelry piece ages and is
exposed to the air it usually develops a rich pitana. Some sterling silver
items are rhodium-plated by manufacturers to prevent tarnishing... until the
plating has been worn off. As the plating is worn away the piece may
begin to tarnish. You can take the item to your local jeweler and have it
rhodium-plated again if you prefer the white color with less polishing.
Occasionally a customer will
not wear sterling silver well- especially people with moist skin. The
moisture reacts with the copper alloy in sterling silver causing a green stain
on the skin and/or a discoloration the sterling silver piece itself. This
is not a defect in the piece but a chemical reaction between the copper and
moisture. If this happens, the piece should be polished frequently and a
non-abrasive powder applied on moist skin areas that are exposed to the jewelry.
You may also wish to check into having the piece rhodium-plated.
Yes, it can happen on
occasion. Here is one example...
A customer gets the new ring they've been dreaming of and they wear it everyday.
They notice a discoloration on their finger or on their clothes... often black
in color and sometimes a smudge around their finger. The first thing that
often goes through their mind is that the gold is impure or the manufacturing
process was faulty. This is not the case. What is often
happening is the customer has come into contact with some type of abrasive.
A common culprit is simple cosmetics which can have ingredients that are
actually harder than the gold itself. As the jewelry comes into contact
with the makeup and rubs on the skin, minute particles of gold are actually
being worn off the jewelry leaving a black trail (yes, black... a jeweler's buff
wheel turns black from polishing gold). The remedy for this is to either
switch cosmetics (yup! must have been a guy who suggested it) or to put
your jewelry on last after you've applied all of your makeup and washed your
hands.
Another possible cause is
actual corrosion of the metal. Pure gold is too soft to use in the
crafting of most jewelry so alloys are added making it more durable. Karat gold
is made up of a percentage of pure gold along with usually silver or copper.
Moist skin can cause the alloys added to the gold to corrode...
"When you perspire, fats and
fatty acids released can cause corrosion of karat gold, especially when exposed
to warmth and air. This problem can be worse in seacoast and semitropical areas,
where chlorides combine with perspiration to form a corrosive element that
discolors skin. Smog fumes gradually attack jewelry and are evident as a tarnish
that rubs off on the skin."
It is recommended that
jewelry be removed and cleaned often and an absorbent powder that does not
contain an abrasive be applied to the skin.
